Time-out with Tom Koopman
In Time-Out, we will talk with basketball players about fashion, their lifestyle and health. This time we spoke to Tom Koopman, a power forward of the Den Helder Suns. After his high school education, Tom decided to follow a military education at the American The Citadel. At the same time, he was a part of different Dutch national youth teams. Now he has returned to the Netherlands to play for the Den Helder Suns.
What is your pre-game ritual?
I always take a pre-game nap. Before the game, I always like to eat pasta. Furthermore, I always try to start shooting and stretching 90 minutes before the game starts.
Do you have a favorite song you like to listen to before a game?
I like listening to any music as long as it gets me going, like Rick Ross, Migos etc. War Ready by Rick Ross is one of my all-time favorite songs to listen to before a game.
Who is your biggest example/idol and why?
My parents and my sister. We have been through tough times, but we all keep it pushing.
Which fashion trend is a big no-go for you?
Personally, I’m not a big fan of jeans that are too skinny. But of course, it’s everyone’s own choice to decide what they want to wear.
What is your favorite fashion brand?
Simple brands like H&M and adidas. As long as it’s sporty and casual.
To which music genre/artist do you like to listen?
Cole is probably my favorite artist. Back in the days, I used to be a big fan of Wiz Khalifa but that has kind of faded.
What is your favorite holiday destination?
The Caribbean. I’ve been there once on a holiday and I would love to go back.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Don’t know if this is a guilty pleasure, but in my spare time, I like gaming with my friends.
What item can’t be missed from your wardrobe?
Enough shorts and joggers.
What is your favorite basketball movie?
White Men Can’t Jump (It’s a classic).
How do you stay in shape?
It’s important to sleep and eat well. The work-rest ratio is always something I value very much, mostly because I really like to sleep.
