Did you know that during a game of basketball your feet, and therefore your shoe size, can expand with a minimum of a half size? With this in mind, Nike started the research of a shoe that meets the needs of all basketball players.

Nike chose basketball as its first sport for the Nike Adapt. This because of the demands of the athletes on their shoes. As Eric Avar, Nike VP Creative Director of Innovation says: “During a normal basketball game the athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience.”

How the shoe works

The use of the shoe is really simple. When you step into the shoe a customized engine and acceleration measure the tension that the foot needs. The shoe will be set to the right tightness. The tensile strength of the lacing is able to draw 32 kilos of force to secure a foot during a whole series of movements

Tested

Impact test, intense temperatures, end of life test, water tightness test. This is how the Nike researchers the Adapt BB have tested. Because of all these tests, this shoe is the most tested shoe of Nike’s history.  After all these tests they invited some basketball players like Boston Celtics and Jayson Tatum to the Nike to headquarter in Oregan. These players had to do a series of training and pick up games.

The shoes are available in February.
