This week museum Verlinden in Wassenaar will feature a new composition of the couple Shio Kusaka and Jonas Wood. The art features pottery from Shio that has been painted by Jonas Wood in his signature style. But there is more. We are Basket discovered that Jonas is a great basketball fan.

In an interview with Hyperallergic, we find out that his house is filled with basketball objects. He always tries to add a sports element in most of his work. In the case of his basketball paintings, it is no different. Jonas recreated old basketball pictures and cards with a partially abstract rendering and the use of bright colours, giving it a sort of Pop Art touch. Jonas always tries to present multiple art styles from different periods in his work.

Jonas often works together with his wife. He paints her pottery to give it an abstract vibe. Ceramic vessels and potted plants figure prominently in his works. Sometimes he creates a painting in a painting, for example, an intricately realised landscape on the outside of a vase.

Wood sees David Hockney, Alex Katz and Lucian Freud as influencers. He says that all three are like superheroes to him.

Below we feature some of his great artworks.
