Euroleague Legend – Juan Carlos Navarro

Juan Carlos Navarro is one of six players in the Euroleague that has been named a Euroleague Basketball Legend. Furthermore, he is the only player on the list that is still active. Throughout his career, he has won two Euroleague titles, eight Liga ACB titles, the Spanish King’s Cup six times, the Spanish Supercup five times and he has won the Korać Cup once. Navarro is a shooting guard, who manages to combine his talent and skills with his leadership and experience to be able to be a key figure for every team he plays in.

But, it all started back in 1997, when he made his debut for FC Barcelona at age 17. Three years later, he was a regular figure in the first team

With the help of his teammates and coach, Navarro quickly turned into one of the most promising European players in the league. Besides the fact that he performed quite well in the Euroleague and Liga ACB, this got the attention of the NBA. Therefore, in 2002, the Washington Wizards decided to draft him into the NBA, but Navarro opted to stay in Spain. Later, in 2007, the Memphis Grizzlies took over Navarro’s NBA rights, Navarro had decided it was time for him to try his luck in the NBA. At the Grizzlies, he was reunited with his former teammate Pau Gasol. During that season, he even made it into the Rookie All-Star game. But, after the 2007-2008 season he wanted to return to Spain and received a great contract offer from FC Barcelona, and he returned to his former team.

After his return to FC Barcelona, he started to collect records. He became the All-Time leading scorer in the Euroleague, scoring 3000 points, since then, Navarro is the first player to reach 4.000 points, got the record for most scored three-pointers in the Euroleague, he is the All-Time leader in field goals made, he has the record for most games player, and he became the All-Time leading scorer in the history of FC Barcelona.

Furthermore, Navarro has been part of one of the greatest Spanish National Team selections since 2000, together with Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Sergio Rodríguez, José Calderón, Rudy Fernández, and Sergio Llull. Throughout his career, he won three Olympic medals (2x silver, 1x bronze), won a gold medal at the FIBA World Cup in Japan and won six medals at Eurobasket (2x gold, 2x silver and 2x bronze.

Overall, if you look at all the things Navarro achieved throughout his career, both as a player of FC Barcelona and as a player of the National Team, it is no surprise that he has been named one of the Euroleague Basketball Legends.
