A bit of summer on these rainy days

In a city like Amsterdam, I think it’s important that you always find new places to have dinner. It’s so easy to have a favorite restaurant where you go to every time you want to go out, but you can miss out on so much. Especially in a big city with a lot of choice. Last week I took a chance again and tried something new with some friends. We went to Los Feliz in Amsterdam, and I’m going to tell you all about it.

Los Feliz is a Cali-Mex restaurant, inspired by the neighborhood of the same name in Los Angeles. The neighborhood is surrounded by bigger ones like Hollywood and Griffith Park and, according to the restaurant, is the best one. The Dutch Los Feliz brought a bit of Los Angeles to Amsterdam, at the Albert Cuypstraat. They brought a bit of Mexico too, since they serve Mexican food, the best kind of food. Besides serving the best kind of food, you can come here for some delicious cocktails, or try one of the nine Margaritas they make.

It was a bit of a search, because the place isn’t that big, but once you see the door with lightened palm trees above it, you definitely can’t ignore it. When we arrived at 7pm, it was very quiet but an hour later the restaurant was crowded. The staff was very nice and they had a table waiting for us, even though we were half an hour early for our reservation. They kept our water glasses filled throughout the evening and were very quick to serve. Besides a nice staff, they had nice food. Of course it was nice, it’s Mexican food. We ordered some dishes to share, nachos (€10,50), quesadillas (€9,-) and a torta (€16,-). The torta wasn’t really to share, but there’s nothing you can’t handle with a knife and a fork. The nachos came with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and melted cheese. The quesadillas were filled with cheese, guacamole, sour cream and we chose the chicken salsa. For the torta, we also chose chicken, and it came with fries. It was delicious and just as spicy as I can handle.

The interior made you feel like it was summer. It’s very colorful, with pink as the main color. There was a big painting of a woman on one wall, and another wall was painted with the pastel colors pink, yellow and blue. You can sit on the bench to the wall, or at one of the yellow chairs. The bar is in the middle of the restaurant, so you can see the bartender making your favorite drinks.
