10 Facts about the Charlotte Hornets

NBA teams play almost every day, and though you might know everything about the players of today, or the past, you might not know all these facts about your favorite team. Today, we selected some interesting facts about the Charlotte Hornets

  1. The Hornets originally played in the Charlotte Coliseum, or ‘The Hive’.
  2. The Charlotte Hornets, founded in 1988, were the first professional sports team in Charlotte.
  3. At first, Charlotte was going to name the team the ‘Spirits, but it eventually became the Hornets through a naming contest.
  4. The original team relocated to New Oreleans in 2002. In 2004, Charlotte got a new franchise, the Bobcats.
  5. It took 10 years before the new franchise in Charlotte could call their team the Hornets again.
  6. The Hornets are the only team in the NBA that don’t have the Nike logo on their jersey, but the Jumpman logo. This is the case, because Michael Jordan is the owner of the team.
  7. The Hornets’ G-League team is called the Greensboro Swarm.
  8. They have never had a player become the regular season MVP.
  9. The Hornets drafted Kobe Bryant, but they immediately traded him to the Lakers. They’d made that deal beforehand and only knew who they were going to draft five minutes before it actually happened.
  10. Their mascot is called Hugo the Hornet. During the Bobcats era, the mascot was called Rufus D. Lynx.
